Cloak and Sweater.

Who else loves a warm bath or a spot in front of the fire during the Winter months as much as I do? We have lives though and the reality is we have to go and be one with the world at least 50% of the time. In my estimation, the closest thing to the aforementioned is a perfect, comfy and cozy sweater.

Snow is beautiful but it makes “being fashionable” a bit of a challenge. Fear not and simply practice the Art of Layering.

Here is how Luella does it ~

  • wear a camisole/tank underneath
  • add a waistbelt, sash or ribbon belt if possible
  • fold and carry  if too bulky to go underneath an overcoat
  • roll or push up the sleeves
  • NEVER fully button it up
  • add jewelry to enhance
  • finish your Winter look with a scarf

“Snow can wait
I forgot my mittens
Wipe my nose
Get my new boots on
I get a little warm in my heart
When I think of winter”

– Tori Amos WINTER

Luella says…Wrap up for the Winter.

What do you love to do in the Winter?

A Cold Weather Concept.

18 Oct

“There is a definite chill in the air…Everywhere.”

We are officially entering Autumn. It’s time to embrace the chance to start wearing the overcoats, sweaters, pants and jackets you put on hiatus for the Summer season.

I will admit it is always a bit hard for me to pack away my easy slip-on and go dresses that I love to wear during the Spring and Summer months. Layering is always an option but less is more; which is why I went searching for a great transitional piece, the Sweater Dress

Adding to its reputation for being a “Winter weather staple” is that it can be styled a thousand ways. Over leggings, tights or skinny jeans. Worn alone with knee or thigh-high boots. Paired over lace or matte stockings. Belted, cinched and accessorized.

The choices are creatively endless.

Luella says…Cold? Go bold.

Go chic, stay warm.

I’m in the mood for Autumn. Growing up in the Midwest, Fall was represented by the changing of the trees and a brisk cool turn in the weather. It marked a time when we had to officially transition our wardrobes into “Winter wear”. Now I live in Southern California and the transition is a bit more subtle. Either way, I love this time of year. It makes me want to cook hearty food, light musky, earthy candles and have a fire in the fireplace. It makes me want to snuggle.

Dresses truly are year round MUST staples. (At least in my closet.)  They are easy and comfortable and depending upon where you are reading from, can be underneath the layers you may have to add-on. While there are a couple Dreaming price point dresses below, the majority are Steals. Don’t believe me, click and find out.

A rule of thumb, is to try to create a nice balance in your closet of all price/designer ranges. Remember Sharon Stone wore a Gap turtleneck with a Valentino trumpet skirt to the Oscars back in 1996. Don’t be afraid to pair one of the choices below with an unexpected riding boot, close-toed wedge or flats. (They were the craze this season on the runway!) Fashion is your chance to make a statement. Be bold.
