A Century of Style.

4 Nov

Women’s Wear Daily is in all intents and purposes, the fashion bible. It is the eyes and ears of the fashion industry and has been known to launch careers with its features.

Working in the showroom, I looked forward to reading it every morning. WWD and a cup of coffee was the perfect start to my day.

It began in June of 1910 and this year, celebrates its 100th year Anniversary.

To celebrate, WWD did a beautiful 100 Remarkable Moments in Fashion pictorial and asked some of the world’s best designers to design a piece for a charity auction that runs now through November 18th.

I have listed some of the highlights below.

The pieces are haute couture, one of kind and made especially for this event.

We can bid or dream, can’t we?

(to BID click on the sketches to be directed to the auction website. Good Luck.)

The art of couture is slowly dying out. In a world of instant gratification and economy shifts, it is becoming less practical no matter your status. If you have unlimited income, embrace your chance to own a part of history.

If you win the auction, plan a party and send me an invitation please.

Who else loves a warm bath or a spot in front of the fire during the Winter months as much as I do? We have lives though and the reality is we have to go and be one with the world at least 50% of the time. In my estimation, the closest thing to the aforementioned is a perfect, comfy and cozy sweater.

Snow is beautiful but it makes “being fashionable” a bit of a challenge. Fear not and simply practice the Art of Layering.

Here is how Luella does it ~

  • wear a camisole/tank underneath
  • add a waistbelt, sash or ribbon belt if possible
  • fold and carry  if too bulky to go underneath an overcoat
  • roll or push up the sleeves
  • NEVER fully button it up
  • add jewelry to enhance
  • finish your Winter look with a scarf

“Snow can wait
I forgot my mittens
Wipe my nose
Get my new boots on
I get a little warm in my heart
When I think of winter”

– Tori Amos WINTER

Luella says…Wrap up for the Winter.

What do you love to do in the Winter?

A Cold Weather Concept.

“There is a definite chill in the air…Everywhere.”

We are officially entering Autumn. It’s time to embrace the chance to start wearing the overcoats, sweaters, pants and jackets you put on hiatus for the Summer season.

I will admit it is always a bit hard for me to pack away my easy slip-on and go dresses that I love to wear during the Spring and Summer months. Layering is always an option but less is more; which is why I went searching for a great transitional piece, the Sweater Dress

Adding to its reputation for being a “Winter weather staple” is that it can be styled a thousand ways. Over leggings, tights or skinny jeans. Worn alone with knee or thigh-high boots. Paired over lace or matte stockings. Belted, cinched and accessorized.

The choices are creatively endless.

Luella says…Cold? Go bold.

What can I do for you? One of the premises of this blog, in terms of fashion, is to help the shopper find exactly what they are lusting for in real-time. Do you need the perfect outfit for an upcoming event? Do you want to find a specific pièce de résistance you saw in Bazaar or Elle? Do you want to have a similar affordable alternative to the aforementioned pièce ? If yes or maybe, message me and let’s start building a closet full of new options for you.

Here is an example. My best friend Kelly LOVED Keri Russell’s dress at this years Emmy Awards. She emailed me the next day and bascially begged me to find the dress so she could wear it to an upcoming wedding. I did a bit of research and realized it was vintage Jean Louis Scherrer and Keri Russell had bought it at Decades in LA 10 years ago. In layman’s terms, it was Haute Couture and one of a kind. Instead of telling her to move on to a new obsession, I decided to test my resources and seek out some beautiful options for her to choose from instead. This is where we landed.

Amanda Uprichard Dynasty Dress

Halston Heritage Halterneck Dress

I created a Polyvore set for her with 10 options total (Click here to view the set) and she ended up ordering the Amanda Uprichard dress the very same day!  I love to seek and find. If the moment moves you, send me a request and I will find you what you wish for. (fashion related-wise of course!!)
