Closet Construction.

15 Dec

Making a list for Christmas is really no different from what I go through every season when Fashion Week rears its gorgeous head.

I delightfully go to Style.com and watch the slide show images of each designer I covet and make mental and yes literal notes of what I would choose and fill my closet with.

A girl can dream right? On a side note, for this Holiday season if your budget is tight, find things you would love to buy for your loved ones and wrap them as promises for when times are not as tough. The thoughtfulness is the same whether it is physically there or not and it gives you a goal and the receiver something to look forward to.

Christmas in (fill in the month) perhaps?

Back to the point, I am compiling a style collage for my work with Kimberly Ovitz, an amazing designer that if you don’t know you need to and thus began my “LOVE list” for the Ready-to-Wear Spring 2011 collections.

If money were no object, I would construct a closet and fill it with these styles and then add to it for each new season from now till forever.

So while I sit here staring out the window at a very dreary and cold day, my thoughts go to Springtime when the world warms up and our closets turn over and welcome back some color.

This is a list of my favorite styles coming hopefully to a boutique near you for Spring 2011. (February/March delivery.) Remember these choices are not necessarily my favorite designers but merely my Musts & Loves.

Ladies & Gents. Run Don’t Walk.

5 Nov

(Orignal sketch by Jeanne Lanvin)

Lanvin (pronounced lawn vaughn) is one of my absolute favorite design houses. Every time I watch a red carpet event, I silently choose which dress is my favorite and without exception it is always Lanvin.

Starting on November 20th in America and the 23rd in Europe, H&M will be launching its

Lanvin ♥’s H&M collection!!!

This event/sale = affordable couture. Très affordable, meaning everything is under $250. I hate the “texting” vernacular but this calls for a major OMG.

Here is a little history in excerpts and photos to give a perspective on how amazing this collaboration is.

Lanvin is the oldest fashion house in Paris. According to Wikipedia, “In 1909, Jeanne Lanvin began making beautiful clothes for her daughter and they began to attract the attention of a number of wealthy people who requested copies for their own children. Soon, Lanvin was making dresses for their mothers, and some of the most famous names in Europe were included in the clientele of her new boutique on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris. She became known for her exquisite robes de style, as well as her modern and global approach to the fashion industry.”

This is one of the original advertisements that was later emulated in gold by Paul Iribe as the insignia of the brand. It is still used today on the logo and stamped into every unit of production.

Some of Jeanne’s original sketches and the dresses they became.

In 2001, after working for Geoffrey Beene, Yves Saint Laurent, Guy Laroche and Krizia; Alber Elbaz took over as Artistic Director of the House of Lanvin. The label was in dire straights up until his arrival and has since blossomed again into a “Must Have, Must Wear” couture and ready-to-wear design house.

Some fashion experts say Alber Elbaz is the best designer in the world. In my humble opinion, his interpretations are constantly on the mark and his collections are pieces of art.

Runway Looks

Below are some of my favorites from the H&M collection. I can’t say I am in LOVE with the campaign but the items themselves are amazing!!
